A walk through Rotterdam

rotterdam
Devastated by the tremendous bombardments that it had to endure during the Second World War , it has managed to get ahead by creating a new Rotterdam . There are hardly any buildings left of the old city, such as the Town Hall or the Post Office , among others.

Located in the west of the Netherlands , Rotterdam has become a reference in the world of architecture . Many of the great architects and engineers have designed some of its many constructions. Not surprisingly, here is the Netherlands Institute of Architecture (NAI).

There is no better reflection of this innovative air than his famous "Cubic Houses" , in which the architect Piet Blom created a new concept of home. One of these houses is a museum that you can visit.

We must not overlook the fact that we are in the largest sea port in Europe and, currently, the second in the world (www.portofrotterdam.com). The famous Europoort (Gate of Europe), with its miles of docks and moorings, employs many of the city’s inhabitants. If possible, it is highly recommended to take a short cruise , of approximately one hour, through the immense port.

But if what we want is to have a unique panoramic view of the port, the best thing is to climb the famous Euromast , a modern communications tower (185 meters high) that will allow us to enjoy incredible views and regain strength eating in its extraordinary restaurant.

Other places to discover:

– We can walk through the central Lijnbaan , along Coolsingel Avenue and its busy adjacent streets (nearby we will see the Church of San Lorenzo), where we will find the Stock Exchange building and the World Trade Center.
Oude Heaven: area with terraces and bars.
Het Park : we can take a quiet walk through this beautiful park.
