Bogotá, the capital of Colombia

Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and also of the department of Cundinamarca . Located in the center of the country, it is the most important city and has a total of 6,840,541 inhabitants . It is a notorious economic and industrial enclave and is one of the main cultural centers in all of Latin America. In 2007, it was named World Book Capital by UNESCO.

The climate of the city is the typical mountainous climate. This should not be surprising due to the altitude at which the city is located (2640 meters above sea level). The temperature usually oscillates between 7 and 18ºC, being 14ºC the annual average . The season with the highest rainfall is usually between April and May and between September and October.
The city is located on the so-called tectonic plate , so seismic movements are not something out of the question. The most accused occurred in the years 1785, 1827, 1917 and 1948.

The main economic engines of the city are the manufacturing industry, real estate services, financial services, commerce and public administration. Thanks to its geographical location, Bogotá is a strategic point in terms of logistics. Many multinationals have decided to settle there for that reason.

As for public transport , the city has the virtue of having a great variety. The Bogotá Trolleybus , the Transmilenio or the Cercanías Train are some examples of good communication by land.

Gastronomy is a delight for all the senses. Its typical dish, the ajiaco santafereño , is a soup with chicken, potatoes of different varieties, corn on the cob and guascas to which milk cream and capers are usually added and it is accompanied by avocado and a delicious curuba cream.
