Empuriabrava: the city of canals

It is still a great unknown, not only for foreign tourists, but also for Spaniards themselves. This small city located on the Costa Brava , belongs to the municipality of Castell d’Empuries and is considered by all who know it as the little Spanish Venice .

Hundreds of canals form the streets of this city that also make it the largest marina in the world.

In total it is made up of about 25 km . of navigable channels through which you can directly access the doors of the houses.

The city of Castell d’Empuries is divided into three areas:

Villa Condal: historical area where we cannot miss a visit to the Cathedral of Castello d’Empuries (13th century with a mixture of Gothic and Baroque styles)

Aiguamolls de l´Empordá Natural Park: nature reserve

Empuriabrava: fully touristic area that makes up the most modern part of the city. Construction began in 1968 in a swampy area directly bathed by the Mediterranean Sea. This unbeatable location makes it an ideal destination for all those who want to practice endless water sports such as windsurfing, parasailing or flysurfing. In summer it can be visited by more than 80,000 people.

Nor can we miss a small visit to the area of ​​the Walls . These protected the city from attacks. The highest reached 7 meters and were built between the 11th and 12th centuries.
