Grande Bretagne, the great hotel of Athens

Athens decided to compete with the famous Ritz Hotel by building this "great" hotel in 1842 . It was first used as a private residence and three decades later it was converted into a huge hotel. In 2004 , and on the occasion of the celebration of the Olympic Games in Athens, it underwent an impressive remodeling. More than 100 million dollars were invested and they chose to reduce the number of rooms in order to expand public spaces.

The Grande Bretagne has become the temporary home of monarchs, politicians and stars of music and cinema. Its location is one of the reasons: Syntagma Square on the right and the Greek Parliament opposite. It can be said that it is close to almost everything, including the Acropolis , the National Historical Museum and the Old City .

The number of rooms was reduced from 360 to 321 . Those in the lower part have unbeatable views of the chaotic Plaza de la Constitución , while the rooms on the upper floors impress us with their views of the Acropolis. All are decorated with dark wood, heavy drapes, gold-edged wood furniture, and marble bathrooms.

The hotel’s service makes it a head of the Greek market for its dependability and precision. The hotel is supervised by a small army of properly uniformed officials.
Can not help but enjoy a swim in his great pool outdoors, lying on its roof with beautiful views of the Acropolis. In the same area you will find its great restaurant where you can enjoy the best dishes of Greek cuisine.
