Madrileños, Catalans and Basques are the tourists who leave the most tips

A study carried out by the accommodation search and reservation portal Hoteles.com reveals that one in two Spanish tourists admits to leaving tips often (only 8% do not usually tip at all) and, apparently, they are the people of Madrid, Catalans and Basques the most generous tourists.

As we were telling you, among the most generous tourists are those from Madrid, who occupy the first place with 60% of the votes, ahead of Basques (40%) and Catalans (26%). These are followed by the Andalusians with 23%. In addition, Andalusia is the community best valued by Spanish tourists for its customer service, with 43% of the votes, followed by the Basque Country, with 34%. Madrid, Catalonia and Galicia complete this Top 5. But going back to the topic of tips, what are the reasons to be more or less generous?

Reasons for tipping

According to the study, the main reason to tip is the quality of the service, ahead of the quality of the product or the space. At least this is what 94% of Spaniards affirm, compared to those who believe that gender is the differential factor, only 3%. What is a fundamental aspect for 89% of Spaniards is speed.

Abroad, more tips

On the other hand, the study reveals that 39% of Spaniards claim to leave tips when they travel abroad, although it is also true that it is mandatory on many occasions. Regarding the company, 18% confirm that they are usually more generous when they are in a relationship or in the company of their friends.

Foreign tourists

Regarding the behavior of foreign tourists in Spain, Americans top the list of the most generous, with 71% of the votes, ahead of the United Kingdom (34%) and Germany (26%). They are followed by the Russians, Japanese, Norwegians, Swedes, Danes and Finns.
