As the other day we already told you about the best beaches in Cantabria, today we want to focus on another of the communities bathed by this cold but beautiful sea. We are referring to the Basque Country, although today we are going to stay in the province of Guipúzcoa. Do you want to discover its best sandy areas? Well, watch out!
La Concha beach
How could it be otherwise, let’s start by talking about Playa de la Concha, which is the most visited and most photographed beach in the entire Basque Country. Located in the heart of San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa), the beach stretches a kilometer and a half, offering white sand beaches throughout its entire length. But beyond its sand, the beach is characterized by its elegance. In addition, here you can find the La Concha Railroad , famous for the San Sebastián Film Festival. On the other hand, the city can boast of having an island in the middle of the bay: Santa Clara Island.
Zurriola Beach
We continue in Guipúzcoa to tell you about Zurriola beach, which is also located in the city of San Sebastián. It is one of the liveliest beaches in the entire Basque Country. Located in the Gros neighborhood, it is very frequented by surfers . In fact, many championships are held here, in addition to being able to take surf courses. It is also very common to see young people practicing other sports: volleyball, soccer, shovels …
Zarautz beach
We move from San Sebastián but we do not leave Guipúzcoa. And now let’s talk Zarautz Beach, with its 2,500 meters long, is the largest in the province. The best thing about this sandy area is that it welcomes all kinds of environments: families, nature lovers, young people, surfers … Of course, the beach is divided into three areas: the westernmost, frequented by bathers and families; the one in the center, where the surfers meet; and the one at the eastern end, where nature lovers usually settle, since numerous species of animals and plants live here.
Saturraran Beach
We could not forget the Mutriku coastline, which stretches for about 4 kilometers. Without a doubt, it is one of the most beautiful coastal areas in the entire Basque Country. Here, in the middle of the Ondarroa bay, is the Saturraran beach, which is surrounded by bare and steep vertical cliffs and has golden sand. There are many water sports that can be practiced here, such as canoeing or windsurfing. In addition, it must be borne in mind that different services are offered on the beach, such as a large car park, a bar and a campsite.
Itzurun Beach
Although there are many beaches in Guipúzcoa that are worthwhile, we are going to end our tour of this province at Itzurun beach, which is very close to the urban area of the town of Zumaia . Here you will find huge limestone cliffs that reach 150 meters in height. They are called flysch. The sand on the beach is golden and there is usually a strong swell, so there are many who travel here to practice surfing and other sports.
