The idea of a museum under the sea seems very simple, but perhaps it is not so simple. Cleopatra’s palace sank long ago in the Mediterranean , but visitors to Alexandria, Egypt , can get to see the complexity of Cleopatra’s world through the existing remains, in the world’s first underwater museum.

The place chosen for this curious museum is near the New Library of Alexandria , where the famous queen of Egypt protected herself from her lover Marco Antonio .
In early September, the United Nations cultural body, UNESCO , announced that it was funding a team to determine whether the project can go ahead.

If built, the museum can display the monuments and treasures of Cleopatra’s palace, which were submerged to the bottom of the sea due to earthquakes that took place during the 4th century AD. of C. The bay is filled with submerged archaeological treasures. During the 90s a team of archaeologists found a lot of objects: 26 sphinxes , statues that were gifts for the gods, columns with a maximum weight of 56 tons , and even Greek shipwrecks.

The museum project is designed to fulfill the function of a normal museum but at the same time impact its visitors first by knowing that they are under water and then by the innumerable and valuable pieces that they will be able to see.

The idea is to make the interior of the museum with a series of tunnels , made of fiberglass , so that visitors can enjoy their walk along the bottom of the sea. However, the murky waters of the bay could conceal some of the submerged monuments. The museum builders will have to clean or replace the water entirely with an artificial pond .
