In Castelló d’Empúries , a municipality located in the northeast of Catalonia, very close to cities such as Figueres or Empuriabrava, you can enjoy the Terra de Trobadors Festival every year. On this occasion, during the nineteenth edition of this traditional festival that revolves around medieval times, I had the opportunity to attend in person to enjoy the endless activities that took place there.
Millennial traditions come together in a town full of history and culture . In addition, all this accompanied by an idyllic landscape. Despite the fact that only 12,000 people live in the town, during September 11, 12 and 13 the population multiplies due to the large influx of people who gather at the Terra de Trobadors Festival. The truth is that it is worth going there to see it.
Children’s shows with puppets, exhibitions of all kinds to promote history and culture, audiovisual shows, ancient music groups with the respective costumes and instruments of the time, medieval dance workshops, cattle shows, guided tours, parades, concerts … were some of the many activities organized this year by the Castelló d’Empuries City Council .
To all this we must add a spectacular atmosphere with the streets and the people involved in the role. The balconies were full of shields of the time, the hosts were dressed as in the old days and there were plenty of stands offering food, swords, shields and other tools that are currently manufactured in a very different way. Nor can we fail to mention the taverns , where all the products that were offered were of high quality.
Another of the possibilities offered by the visit was to be able to visit a prison . You could enter several cells and watch prisoners from hundreds of years ago go through it. The truth is that they did not have much space to move and the conditions in which they lived were really precarious.
