Monserrate Palace in Portugal

The Monserrate Palace , in the Portuguese city of Sintra , is one of the most beautiful that you can find in the whole country. It is only 30 kilometers from Lisbon, so it is an ideal place to visit if you are going to spend a few days in the capital. One of the most impressive historical buildings at an architectural level and inside which you can also enjoy a beautiful nature.

Its decoration both outside and inside is spectacular and will take you back to the time of the fairy tale palaces thanks to the magic that is given off in every corner. One of the best things about Monserrate is that since it is not as famous as other buildings in Sintra, it is not as crowded with people as others may be. Even so, it is advisable to go when they open to be able to make the visit with more tranquility.

Botanical Garden

The most striking thing about this palace is that it has a spectacular botanical garden inside, which houses more than 2,500 species of trees, shrubs and plants. This garden is as soon as you enter the palace and is divided into several areas where you can find different plants, flowers, trees, springs , paths and even some caves. It is one of the most picturesque and beautiful gardens in Portugal.

Its interior

As you go through the gardens, you come to an esplanade that is covered with grass and that is the first to be planted in the entire country. This esplanade leads to the interior of the palace, where you can take a guided tour to learn about the most interesting details. Built in the mid- nineteenth century , its architecture is impressive, so it is worth stepping on each of its corners.


Hours and tickets

It is on the outskirts of Sintra but it is definitely worth a visit for several reasons. You can visit it from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from May 1 to September 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in summer and from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. the rest of the year. The time limit to enter is one hour before closing, and admission costs 5 euros.
