From January 27 to 29 of this year, snow will take on a very important place in the framework of a very interesting and entertaining program of events. Kiruna is a town that is 140 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, in the Lapland region.

Also included in the program are skiing , ice skating, sleigh and reindeer races and lots of fun activities for the whole family. Many of the activities take place at night in giant igloos, although the biggest event, the snow sculpture contest, takes place on the main streets.

A traditional festival

Since it began to be held in 1985, the Kiruna Snow Festival has become a tradition in Sweden and in all northern European countries. An event in which any visitor will have a great time with activities such as doing a moose safari or traveling a snowmobile route. Of course, traditional Swedish cuisine is not lacking in any of the town’s restaurants and bars. It is essential to try the k枚ttbullar , which are meatballs covered in a sauce made with sour cream.

Ice Hotel

During your visit to the festival you cannot miss the famous Ice Hotel, which is built entirely of ice, both inside and outside. This hotel is only built for several weeks in winter, and its construction involves artists from all over the world. Rooms, reception, bar, decoration … absolutely everything is built of ice .
