The best beaches in Madeira

The island of Madeira , in Portugal, is one of the most interesting destinations in Europe, especially if you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy your holidays in a relaxed way. Although it has many interesting things, without a doubt its beaches take the cake as they are spectacular. You can find them with different characteristics, so you can spend the day in the one that best suits your tastes and needs.

Obviously, I cannot do an article with all the beaches of Madeira since there are so many and it would take weeks to write it and you to read it, so I will focus on the best ones. Although I will leave out many interesting beaches, without a doubt the ones in this article are very special for different reasons, which makes them one of the most famous on the island.

Praia Formosa

It is 10 minutes from Funchal and there are three small sandy beaches and one of Callao which is larger. Any of them always have an influx as they are spectacular, in addition to the fact that you can practice various sports activities. During the summer there are competitions and the nightlife is very lively. It has a Blue Flag and among its services there is a medical center, a nursery, changing rooms, bars and a car park.

Calhau da Lapa

Its waters are the cleanest on the entire island, and it is also one of the calmest beaches. It is in Campanário , half hidden at the bottom of a hillside, so to get there you have to travel somewhat complicated paths. It is not a spectacular beach but it is perfect to rest. It has hammocks, umbrellas and a bar, among other services.

Ribeira Brava

It is in the center of Ribeira Brava, very close to bars, restaurants and all kinds of leisure facilities . There are areas to play volleyball and soccer, as well as canoes for a walk on the sea. A beautiful and very interesting beach.

Ponta do Sol

It is in one of the sunniest places on the island, and it is a small but beautiful beach . The climate is very good all year round, and the water is not usually cold. It is the quietest beach on the entire south coast of the island, and it has services such as bars or changing rooms, so you will not miss anything.
