Barcelona is an exciting city where you can find a lot of interesting places. A place where architecture is very important, showing itself in different styles and forms depending on which neighborhood of the city you are in. One of the most striking and beautiful areas of the city is the Gothic Quarter, which is also one of the most important neighborhoods since it is home to the Town Hall and the Generalitat, specifically in Plaça de Sant Jaume.

Today I would like to write about Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter and the most interesting things you can find in it, those corners that you have to visit yes or yes if you are going to be in the city.

Carrer del Bisbe

It is a beautiful neo-Gothic bridge that crosses Plaça de Garriga i Bachs, thus linking the Palau de la Generalitat with the Casa del Canonges, which is the official residence of the president. In this street there is also the Puerta de Santa Eulàlia, which takes you directly to the cloister of the Cathedral.

Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia

It was built on the old Romanesque cathedral, which in turn was built on ancient Paleo-Christian and Visigothic temples. Construction began in 1298, although its exterior facade was not raised until 1888, on the occasion of the Barcelona Expo and after 400 years had passed without practically any progress on it. It is in the neo-Gothic style and has 5 doors, towers, stained glass windows, gargoyles, chapels, the main altar, a Chapter House and the crypt of Santa Eulalia, among other things.

Major Royal Palace

It is in Plaça del Rei and houses the Museum of the History of the City , where you can discover priceless treasures. During the tour you will find out what happened in Barcelona in times of the Iberian settlement or what its golden age was like when it was the port capital of the Crown of Aragon. This palace has 3 buildings: the Salón del Tinell (where Columbus was received by the Catholic Monarchs after his first trip to America), the Palatine Chapel of Santa Ágata and the Palace of the Lieutenant.
