Park Güell, the heart of Barcelona

Park Güell is a spectacular garden that is located in the upper part of Barcelona , very close to Tibidabo and that has great architectural elements inside. It is the perfect place to disconnect for a few hours from the noise of the city. Designed by Antoni Gaudí at the request of the businessman Eusebi Güell, it was conceived as an urbanization although in 1922 it was inaugurated as a public park. Since 1984 it has been part of the extensive World Heritage Site . It has about 18 hectares and a spectacular and peculiar design that shows what Gaudí’s work was like. Wavy shapes, tree-shaped walkways with columns, geometric shapes and stalactites. In Park Güell any figure is possible.

The main entrance is in the lowest part of the mountain, in Olot street, and it is the part closest to the urban area. It has six more entries. A wrought iron gate will greet you, and as you walk you will discover various animal sculptures and plenty of columns and pavilions, mostly made of marble. In the central part of the park there is a spectacular square of 3,000 square meters and its border is similar to a snake, it is covered with pieces of ceramic. At first, the square was designed to house a theater that would serve as a place for meetings and celebrations.

Viaducts, trees, sculptures … Park Güell is a spectacular place that will make you fall in love as soon as you step on it. There you can also see the Gaudí House-Museum , the artist’s place of residence until a few months before his death in 1925. It was built as a “pilot house” of the planned urbanization, and Gaudí bought it when he saw that the initial project. In the house you can see a wide collection of his works and those of his collaborators, all of them spread over three floors. A spectacular place that you cannot miss if you are going to travel to Barcelona .
