The Cíes Islands

Cies Island
The Cíes Islands are located in the full Rías Baixas , in the Galician province of Pontevedra . Thirty years ago it was declared a Natural Park and for a few years it has also formed part, together with the archipelagos of Cortegada, Ons and Sálvora, of the National Park of the Atlantic Islands that extends over the Rías Baixas.

Belonging to the municipality of Vigo, it is a beautiful place that can be visited all year round. This archipelago is mainly made up of three islands: the Isla deMonteagudo , the Isla de Montefaro and finally the Isla de San Martiño . Around these there are also small islets, the archipelago having a total area of 2658 marine and 433 terrestrial hectares.

All of these islands form a natural barrier between the sea and the estuary, which has made the port of Vigo one of the safest ports in the world. To be able to access them, the most common is to take a regular line catamaran that connects the cities of Vigo, Cangas and Baiona with the whole archipelago.

You can spend the night in it, since there is a campsite with a capacity of 800 places where you can stay for no more than fifteen days. Once there you can enjoy either a day of hiking or a day at the beach. From the port of the island you can see one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Playa de Rodas , with crystal clear and calm waters, and with a blue flag. On the other hand, one of the best known hiking routes is the climb to Monte Faro, from where you can enjoy beautiful views. The islands are also a great observatory for birds and marine species.
