We continue in Vickaya to tell you about Mundaka, a town that attracts many surfers every year thanks, among other things, to its famous left wave. We change province and go to Guipúzcoa, where Getaria is located, a medieval walled town located on a hillside. Birthplace of Juan Sebastián Elcano and Cristóbal Balenciaga, this beautiful fishing village stands out, among other things, for the views of Mount San Antón, known as the “Ratón de Getaria”.
Also in Guipúzcoa is Oñati, a town surrounded by green mountains and the mole limestone of Aloña. We move to Álava to visit Elciego, a picturesque town that has become an almost obligatory destination for wine lovers, since there are numerous wineries here. Of course, the Marqués del Riscal winery stands out, designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry.
Neither can Fuenterrabía, a fishing village also known as Hondarribia, be on our list. Victim of numerous French attacks due to its border location, this town surprises with its old fortress and its steep streets, which are surrounded by walls. But do not think that this colorful fishing village of great architectural value is only a pleasure for the eyes. And it is that it is one of the best places in the Basque Country to eat, being able to find a lot of restaurants and tapas bars.
Finally, let’s talk about Tolosa, a town of great important historical situated on the banks of the river Oria which preserves a precious historic monuments and buildings of different architectural styles.
