The spectacular Whitsunday Islands in Australia

Whitesunday Islands
The world is full of wonderful corners that are worth discovering. Unfortunately, most of us do not have the time or money to visit them all. Of course, there are some places that everyone should visit at least once in their life. We refer to places as amazing as the Whitsunday Islands , which we already talked about the other day when we showed you the most beautiful landscapes in the world.

Located in Australia , these islands are surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, although they not only marvel at the richness of their waters, but also by the paradisiacal landscapes that they offer to all who visit them. Would you like to discover more details about one of the most beautiful places on the planet? Well then you can’t miss anything that we tell you below!

Great Barrier Reef

The Whitsunday Islands, which are located 936 kilometers from Brisbane, in the state of Queensnald , are made up of 74 islands that, as we have mentioned before, are surrounded by the Australian Great Barrier Reef (Great Barrier Rief), considered to be the largest coral reef on the planet. Therefore, it is not surprising that they were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It has more than 2,000 kilometers of extension and, as you can imagine, it is an ideal place to practice snorkeling or diving.

An example of paradise on earth

As you can see for yourself in the images that we offer you in the gallery, the Whitsunday Islands are the clear example of a paradisiacal landscape. They were formed millions of years ago, when there was a rise in sea level that flooded what was a mountain range, leaving only the highest points on the surface. Over time, they became what they are today: a set of bays and white sand beaches surrounded by vegetation and crystalline waters that acquire different hues. Of course, they did not have that name until Captain Cook baptized them back in 1770. Some of the islands are characterized by being very fine strips of sand, although others host luxurious tourist centers. This is the case of Whitsunday Island, which is the largest.

The most visited islands

There are many places that are worth visiting on the island. If you travel by plane, you will arrive in Hamilton, which is the most developed island in the archipelago, so you will find a wide tourist offer. Another option is to get to Whitsunday Island by boat, which is the largest and one of the most visited. Hook, which is shaped like a gaff, Hayman and South Molle are also quite visited islands. What we recommend you to make the most of your trip to the Whitsunday Islands is that you make a route aboard a yacht or catamaran and, thus, be able to visit a different place every day.

Whiteheaven Beach

Whiteheaven beach deserves a separate mention, indisputable in the rankings of the best beaches in the world that circulate around the world. Located on Whitsunday Island, it is the most important attraction of the islands, something that is not surprising, since we are talking about a 7-kilometer-long beach consisting only of fine white sand, crystal clear waters of a beautiful turquoise blue color and a lush forest that acts as a backdrop. A curiosity is that its sand does not burn thanks to its mineral composition.
