In northwestern France , in the region named Lorraine, lies the city of Nancy . With a population of over four hundred thousand inhabitants, this French city is the capital of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department of that region. More specifically, Nancy is located in the area of the lower reaches of the Meurthe River and therefore close to the confluence of the latter with the Moselle River. This turns the city into a river port with two channels, the Marne-Rhine and the Paris-Nancy.
