Thus, after talking to you about the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, the Monte Cabezón National Monument and the Monfragüe National Park, today we are moving to Catalonia, specifically to the province of Barcelona, to talk about a forest that deserves the worth visiting during this time of year. We are referring to the Fageda de la Grevolosa , one of the most impressive places in this autonomous community. Do you want to discover more details? Well, you just have to keep reading!

Location

La Fageda de la Grevolosa, known in Spanish as the Hayedo de la Grevolosa, is located in the Serra dels Llancers , which is a kind of natural border between the Transversal mountain range and the Pre-Pyrenees. It is part of the PEIN of Milany-Bellmunt-Puigsacalm due to its beauty and the biological interest of this place. It currently belongs to the Generalitat of Catalonia, in addition to belonging to the Natura 2000 Network.

Amazing beech trees

As you can discover for yourself in the images that we offer you in the gallery, this forest surprises with its beech forests, some of which are more than 300 years old. In fact, some of them are really monumental , being able to reach more than one meter in diameter and 40 meters in height. Of course, the most surprising of them all is one that measures 42 meters, has a trunk of about 6 meters in perimeter at its base and has a 20 meter diameter crown.

Great natural diversity

In addition to its trees, the Fageda de la Grevolosa draws attention for its great natural diversity, being able to find numerous species both in terms of flora and fauna. However, in recent times the Generalitat has had to carry out some conservation tasks due to soil erosion. Thus, what the Catalan Government intends is for more trees to grow so that the forest in general can regenerate.

The route

Fortunately, since this has allowed it to remain in its current state, the only way to reach the forest is by taking a 2-kilometer walk. The good thing is that this path is quite simple and can even be done with children , although if they are not very used to this type of route, they may end up getting tired along the way. In addition, it is important that you bear in mind that in some sections of the path the children will have to go hand in hand due to the unevenness. Therefore, the level of difficulty of the route is low, although it is true that you have to walk 4 kilometers, 2 on the way and 2 on the way back.

Autumn, the best time to visit

How could it be otherwise, the best time of year to visit this beautiful Barcelona forest is autumn, when the beech forest takes on unique colors and the atmosphere is most peaceful and inspiring. Of course, in spring you can also enjoy this enclave in a very special way. Do you dare to visit it? To convince you, below we leave you with our gallery , where you will find more beautiful images of the Fageda de la Grevolosa. Do not miss it!
