San Lorenzo de El Escorial
In the first place, we are going to talk about San Lorenzo de El Escorial, which is located in the Sierra de Guadarrama, just 50 kilometers from the capital. As you may have imagined, the Monastery of El Escorial is the protagonist of the town, although the natural landscape of this place is also surprising, formed by Mount Abantos, the pine forest and the La Herrería meadow.
Buitrago del Lozoya
We continue our journey through the most beautiful towns in the Community of Madrid in Buitrago de Lozoya, which is located in the Sierra Norte , almost 1,000 meters above sea level. Among its main attractions we find the Church of Santa María, the Walled Enclosure, the Casa del Bosque, the Picasso museum and the Old Bridge.
Patones from Above
Patones de Arriba could not be missing from this list, a town located in the Jarama basin, very close to the province of Guadalajara and about 50 kilometers from the capital. In addition to a great deal on hotels and lodgings, this town offers quality catering, hiking and cycling, exhibitions, guided tours, archaeological sites and a wide architectural heritage.
New Baztán
Located to the southeast of the community, in the heart of Alcarría Madrileña , we find the town of Nuevo Baztán, whose urban complex was declared "Asset of Cultural Interest" and "Historic Artistic Complex" by the Community of Madrid. The Palace, the Church, the factory buildings and their squares stand out, although it is also highly recommended to take a route by bicycle or on foot in the surroundings.
Chinchon
Nor could Chinchón be missing from this list, a town that, located 45 kilometers from the city of Madrid, stands out above all for its medieval square, which throughout history has been the scene of numerous shows and activities. Also striking is the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Convent of the Poor Clares, the Clock Tower and the remains of the castle, dating from the 15th century.
Manzanares El Real
Another beautiful town in the Community of Madrid is Manzanares El Real, which offers history, nature and outdoor sports, all 60 kilometers from the capital. Specifically, this town is located in the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Park, which has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO . Among its main attractions is the castle, one of the best-preserved fortresses in the community.
The Hiruela
We also want to talk to you about La Hiruela, a most unique town that is located in a privileged enclave: the Sierra del Rincón. You will love its stone , adobe and wood houses, which have been practically intact for decades. Among its buildings and elements of interest we find the pylon, the Flour Mill, the Town Hall and the old school.
Rascafría
Finally, we want to talk about Rascafría, a quiet town located northwest of the community, in the Lozoya Valley. Its urban center stands out, where the Parish Church of San Andrés Apóstol is located, and the Monastery of El Paular, located two kilometers from the town.
