Any time of the year is good to discover any of the wonderful natural environments that the Canary Islands hide. Therefore, despite the fact that we are already experiencing really low temperatures on the peninsula, today we are going to propose a nature excursion. Specifically, we moved to La Palma , known as the Isla Bonita, although its historical name is actually San Miguel de La Palma. Without a doubt, this is a true paradise for any lover of hiking, with its volcanic orography and its many marked trails.

One of the best routes on the entire island is the Marcos y Cordero Springs Route , which we can locate in the municipality of San Andrés y Sauces. Would you like to discover more details about this route that is wonderful for any hiking lover? Well, do not miss anything that we tell you below!

An amazing path

As we were telling you, today we are on the island of La Palma to visit the Marcos y Cordero Springs Route, a route that follows, in parallel, the channel that collects the waters of these springs, passing through the Marcos caldera and Lamb and going through narrow tunnels (a total of 13). Beyond the path, which in itself is amazing, the best part of the route is to be able to contemplate the ravines, the large vertical walls and its native vegetation. Of course, water is one of the key elements of the trail, in addition to having played an essential role in the historical development of the region.

Vegetation

The path, which covers 7 kilometers, is circular and has hardly any unevenness. Of course, it is not a short tour, since it takes five hours. The route begins and ends at the so-called Casa del Monte and, as we have just mentioned, it offers the possibility of contemplating a beautiful plant landscape. The lush pine trees and the remnants of laurel forest stand out, a type of subtropical forest present in some of the Canary Islands. Specifically, at a certain point in the tour you can go down to the Visitor Center through the Bosque de los Tilos, which is a lush forest of this type that was declared a Biosphere Reserve more than 30 years ago, long before the entire island received this distinction.

Natural pools

Without a doubt, one of the things that you like the most about the tour are the natural pools that are at the end of the walk, where you will enjoy a relaxing bath in salt water. Here you will find a bar and a restaurant, offering fresh produce from the sea and the land. Bocanegras, candiles, morenas, shrimp, limpets or pressed goat cheese are some of the gastronomic delicacies that you can taste.

Information of interest to carry out the tour

As we have mentioned before, the trail begins at Casa del Monte. The best way to get here is by 4 × 4, since the forest track presents a great level of difficulty, so it is only suitable for vehicles with four-wheel drive. On the other hand, we recommend arriving very early, since the parking lot is quite small. It is also important that you bear in mind that it is advisable to carry a flashlight for the tunnels and a waterproof garment, which will be very useful to cross any of them. In addition, we want to recommend that you do not do the tour if it is raining. Then we leave you with our gallery , where you will find more images of this wonderful Canarian corner. Do not miss it!
