Tips for not getting dizzy on travel

Are you one of those who gets dizzy on travel? You’re not alone! In fact, it is a fairly common problem in society (1 in 3 people get motion sickness). It is important to bear in mind that, although they are frequent, dizziness is not normal and, therefore, it must be corrected. In fact, they occur because there is a mismatch between what is seen and what is felt.

Knowing that in summer there are many more trips, today at Vuela Viajes we want to give a hand to all those who suffer that unpleasant feeling of instability when they undertake a trip by any means of transport. In fact, we are going to give you some tips that will be of great help to you. Would you like to join us?

Symptoms of dizziness

The dizziness caused by travel can become so unpleasant that some people end up making the decision to stay at home and not visit the world simply because they do not suffer from this situation. And is that among the symptoms is nausea , upset stomach and headache. Fortunately, in most cases this feeling ends at the end of the journey.

Be careful with posture

A good trick to avoid dizziness in any form of transport is to maintain a correct posture during the trip. Thus, the ideal is that you maintain an upright posture and look straight ahead. And, as we have mentioned before, the dissonance between what we perceive (when we look inside the vehicle, the brain thinks that the person is still), and what is happening can trigger dizziness.

Of course, it is important that you do not keep your eyes on a fixed point, that is, if you are one of those who get dizzy, it will be better not to read or entertain yourself with your mobile or tablet. If you do, your brain will believe that you are still, although the reality that is perceived through the senses due to curves, accelerations and stops is that it is in motion. As we have mentioned before, incoherence is what causes dizziness.

Of course, when going on a trip you should pay close attention to what you eat. Thus, for example, it is not recommended that you fill your stomach with abundant or full calorie dishes, and not only because large meals increase the risk of dizziness, but because the symptoms will be worse. The ideal is to eat something solid and light.

On the other hand, it is recommended that you do not drink alcohol before or during the trip. In addition, tobacco and stimulants are discouraged. Of course, we recommend that you chew gum. In this way you will increase the amount of saliva which, when swallowed, will stimulate gastric movements in the stomach , reducing the urge to vomit.

Don’t move too much

We also do not recommend that you move too much during the journey. The ideal, in fact, is to remain seated and, if possible, fall asleep . Therefore, it is advisable to choose the areas with less movement. For example, in the car and the bus the ideal is to go in the front. On the other hand, on the boat the middle area and the deck are recommended. On the plane, it is best to sit close to the wings.

On the other hand, you should know that sudden movements can cause the fluid in the ears to change position faster, which will contribute to making you feel worse.

Light clothing

Finally, we recommend that you do not bundle up too much in the car, as the sensation of heat increases the chances of dizziness. Thus, the ideal is to wear light clothing and stay in a place where there is air. Of course, if it is a private car, you should not go overboard with the air conditioning either.
