Weapons confiscated at airports in 2013

Impressed we have been with the photographs that the blog of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in the United States has shown. These are the weapons seized at the airports of the North American country over the past year, grouped in thematic collages (pistols, knives, grenades …).

TSA agents examined 638,705,790 passengers in 2013 (more than 1.7 million per day), and found 1,828 firearms, 16.5 percent more than in 2012 (then 1,556). But the organization gives even more data: 81 percent of those weapons were loaded and one in three had a bullet in the chamber ready to fire.

The most popular weapons

The most popular weapons are .380 caliber and 9mm pistols. And do you know which is the airport that leads this peculiar and, on the other hand, threatening classification? Well, it was none other than the Atlanta airport.

Most dangerous objects

The list of dangerous objects is overwhelming. And it is that in addition to pistols, during 2013 daggers, knives, smoke grenades, maces, ninja stars (yes, as you are reading it), and up to 562 stun guns have been found. In the blog that we mentioned earlier, you will be able to see the detailed and complete list of the weapons and in what situation the agents intercepted them, with many more photographs.

Ingenious hiding places

Remember that in the United States, passengers can carry their weapons as long as they are in the luggage that will go in the hold of the plane and they are declared. However, those who intend to sneak their weapons onto the plane still manage. For example, knives have been found hidden inside cell phones, in canes or combs on the sole of the shoe, and pepper spray hidden in lipstick.
