What to see in Hasselt, Belgium

The city of Hasselt is one of the most beautiful in Belgium , and although it is not as famous as Brussels, Antwerp or Bruges may have, the truth is that it is a very interesting destination that is worth visiting. A charming city that is just over an hour from both the capital and the main airport, Brussels S. Charleroi , and where you will find a very pleasant atmosphere and a lot of nightlife.

A few years ago it received the distinction of "The most sociable city in Flanders", so it is undoubtedly a perfect place for a vacation, a getaway or even to spend a day if you are going to be in any other city in the country and you don’t have any very far. It is also a perfect city for shopping as it has a lot of pedestrian streets full of shops, and its prices are much cheaper than in the main Belgian cities.

It is one of the most important economic centers in Belgium and it also has a lot to offer on a tourist level, such as its spectacular religious architecture. In the center of the city you will find a beautiful medieval area with very important historical buildings such as the "Sweert" , which is in the Plaza del Mercado Mayor and which is one of the oldest medieval houses in the area. It is next to the Cathedral of San Quintín and both buildings were the origin of the city.

On the one hand, the National Museum of Geneva , where you will discover everything about this drink, the favorite of the entire Benelux area. Also interesting is the Stellingwerff-Waerdenhof Museum, which shows the history of the city and its surroundings in spectacular exhibitions.

Shopping in Hasselt

As I mentioned at the beginning, it is a perfect city to go shopping thanks to its pedestrian streets , something that is appreciated when you are shopping since you do not have to worry about traffic. You can find both small family shops with typical products and large stores of the most prestigious firms in any sector. The main shopping streets are Demerstraat and Koning Albertstraat, although you will find the most luxurious stores in streets such as Kapelstraat or Hoogstraat.

Parks in Hasselt

I don’t know about you, but I love visiting parks in any city I travel to, at least the most important park. The best here is Kaparmolen Park , which is home to the Japanse Tuin, one of the largest Japanese gardens in Europe. There you will see several ponds, fountains, trees and even a tea room.
