Landscape description

To get to the geysers of Sol de Mañana, you have to travel through an arid lunar-like landscape that many would define as strange and lonely. If the path is already impressive, imagine what it can mean to contemplate the area of the geysers . And it is that it is a place full of craters of all sizes where you can see boiling lava. In addition, geysers and fumaroles usually emit vapors that can reach up to 50 meters in height. Yes! Yes! As you are reading it! This distance is possible due to the pressure at which these vapors are emitted. As you can imagine, this phenomenon allows us to contemplate truly unique landscapes.

Geothermal exploitation

Such is the volcanic activity in the area that a study is being carried out to take advantage of its geothermal potential to generate electricity and not only for the locals, but for the international market. In this way, it would not only be contributing to the conservation of the environment, but also the energy matrix of Bolivia would be diversified . For those who do not know what we are talking about, the concept of "energy matrix" refers to the quantitative representation of the energy available in a territory. To get to take advantage of this place geothermally, it would be necessary to drill wells, install pipelines, build a power plant and a 140-kilometer stretch.

Beyond these impressive craters, Bolivia has a lot of attractions, most of them natural. For example, in the same Natural Reserve where Sol de Mañana is located, you can find many interesting places, such as the Laguna Colorada, which is home to a large population of flamingos ; the Green Lagoon and the Licancabur Volcano; the Stone Tree, a rock formation with a very particular appearance; Hot Springs in the Laguna Salada; the Ch’aska Interpretation Center, where you can find information about the diversity of this interesting area; the Rocas de Dalí, a set of volcanic rocks of the most surreal; the Siloli Desert; or the Uturuncu Volcano, which represents the highest mountain in the south of the country, as well as numerous lagoons. The good news is that sustainable, participatory and competitive tourism is developed in the area, contributing to local and regional development and the management of the Reserve.
