Extremadura is a region of contrasts in which you will be able to discover monumental complexes of great value, taste exquisite food, highlighting the Iberian hams, and visit spectacular natural places, which are very frequented by lovers of ornithology.
Today at Vuela Viajes we want to take a tour of some of the most beautiful natural spaces in Cáceres and Badajoz. Of course, we are aware that we have left many beautiful corners in the pipeline. Therefore, we are open to your suggestions. Would you like to join us?
Monfragüe National Park
First of all, we want to talk about the Monfragüe National Park, one of the 15 national parks in Spain. Located in the province of Cáceres, this natural corner is crossed by two rivers: the Tagus and the Tiétar. This place is a true paradise for lovers of ornithology . The population of griffon vultures is surprising, although there are many species that can be seen: black storks, Egyptian vultures, imperial eagles, black vultures …
Cornalvo Natural Park
Another place worth visiting is the Cornalvo Natural Park, where you can discover Roman vestiges, native biodiversity , Mediterranean vegetation … The dam built over the Albarregas river by the Romans stands out, which is preserved in excellent condition. In fact, it is still used for its original purpose.
Tagus International Natural Park
We also want to talk about the International Tagus Natural Park, a name given to two protected natural spaces with identical characteristics but with different management. One of the spaces is located in Cáceres and the other in the Central Region of Portugal. The park stands out for its great and varied botanical wealth . In addition, it is important to bear in mind that many important animal species live here, some of which are in danger of extinction, such as the Iberian imperial eagle.
Hells Throat Nature Reserve
The Garganta de los Infierno Natural Reserve, a protected area located north of the province of Cáceres, could not be missing from this list. Here you can find many waterfalls, waterfalls, streams, natural pools and pools dug by the rivers themselves. It is important to bear in mind that thanks to the humidity of the area, its vegetation stands out for its great ecological value.
Nor could the Jerte Valley be absent, a valley declared a Site of Cultural Interest that is located in the extreme northeast of Extremadura. This corner offers a great variety of flora and vegetation but, without a doubt, the star of this place is the cherry tree , which blooms in spring, creating a really beautiful picture. In fact, every year the Cherry Blossom Festival is celebrated, a festival of national tourist interest.
Los Barruecos Natural Monument
Another natural space that we must mention is the Los Barruecos Natural Monument, which is located in the middle of the Cáceres peneplain. It is a spectacular natural creation in which humans have also had something to do. Here you will find a flattened relief dotted with ponds and huge granite domes.
Monte Valcorchero Protected Landscape
The Monte Valcorchero Protected Landscape is located in the municipality of Plasencia, in the province of Cáceres. Specifically, it is located in the foothills of the Sierra del Gordo. It is surprising for its population of cork oaks and for its particular steep and broken relief.
Finally, we must talk about the Melero del Melero, a spectacular natural area located in the Las Hurdes region. Without a doubt, the best corner of this place is the viewpoint , La Antigua, from where you can get impressive views of the rugged landscape, which is typical of Hurdan.
