The luxury hotel chain InterContinental will make a few iPads available to its concierge staff next week. InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, has 166 high-end properties around the world, but will only put this project into operation in 4 of its immense hotels. A spokesperson for the brand confirmed that if the trial period goes as planned, they will put the device in all hotels .
The tablet will help hotel staff to improve customer service . They will be able to provide high-resolution satellite maps, close-up views of different streets, and short videos of places of interest for clients. The four hotels that will be able to inform their clients in this way are: InterContinental Barclay in New York, InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta, InterContinental London Park Lane and InterContinental Hong Kong.
The chain is convinced that the iPad is perfect for common janitorial tasks such as providing instructions, giving restaurant recommendations and making reservations. As confirmed by the spokesman, the company wants these devices do not replace the human touch that comes from concierge teams, if not improve jobs.
Although the InterContinental chain is the first chain to incorporate such a well-known device into its work scheme, other well-known hotels are beginning to equip their facilities with more modern equipment that makes it easier for travelers to stay. Some hotels are beginning to install special computers at the reception entrance that allow customers to check-in themselves without having to wait to be seen.
