Natural pools in the middle of the forest in Cáceres

Hells Throat1
Many times we believe that to see incredible landscapes we have to go outside of Spain , but nothing could be further from reality. Throughout the country we can find truly spectacular corners: paradisiacal beaches, magical mountains, cosmopolitan cities, charming towns, beautiful forests …

One of these corners is the Garganta de los Infierno , a natural reserve located at the western end of the Sierra de Gredos, in Cáceres. Specifically, it is located in the Valle del Jerte region, the gateway to Extremadura. Do you want to know what this magical place hides? Coming up next, we tell you!

Los Pilones

In the Valle del Jerte you will find different gorges, but few will surprise you as much as the one we are going to show you today. And it is that time has eroded it in a super curious way. Thus, you will be able to contemplate how the water circulates through all kinds of obstacles, jumps and waterfalls. This, together with the force of the water and the granite and gneiss rocks, gives rise to a series of natural pools in the middle of the forest that seem taken out of a story.

We are referring to the giant kettles, which are large pools dug into the rock due to river erosion . Of all of them, those that are in the place known as Los Pilones stand out.

The ideal place to cool off in summer

During the summer, when the course of the river is not very torrential, the landscape allows you to enjoy a few dips in the middle of rocks modeled as if they were sculptures.
