Pablo Escobar’s mansion becomes a luxury hotel

Television series on drug trafficking have been very successful in recent years, both on free and pay channels. Of course, above all of them, Narcos stands out, one of the most successful Netflix productions. Undoubtedly, the enormous success of the series is due, in large part, to the fascination that people have for the character Pablo Escobar , who for many years was the most powerful and wanted drug trafficker in the world.

The founder of the Medellín, Colombia cartel, which amassed one of the world’s largest fortunes from the cocaine trade, was not only known for his bloody crimes and impressive power, but for his lavish lifestyle. In fact, it had different mansions. Now one of them has been converted into a luxurious hotel. Would you like to discover it? Well join us!

Located in one of the most desired destinations in the Riviera Maya

As we were saying, today we want to talk to you about one of the many properties that the king of the Medellín cartel had spread throughout Latin America. Renamed Casa Malca, it is located on the coast of Tulum, one of the most desired destinations in the Riviera Maya, which is located in the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico. And it is that in addition to offering spectacular beaches, it houses amazing ruins. Now, the mansion has been converted into a five-star hotel.

Property of art collector Lio Malca

After Escobar’s death in 1993, the mansion was abandoned until 2003, when it was rediscovered and returned to its original owner. In 2012, the property was bought by New York-based art collector Lio Malca . It was he who decided to turn the house and the surrounding villas into a luxury hotel.

Contemporary art, nature and relaxed luxury

The Casa Malca hotel opened its doors in 2015 with 9 rooms, although now it has more than 35. It is located on a private beach, specifically on one of the largest of the endless white sand beaches of this paradise on the Yucatan Peninsula. . As you can see for yourself by taking a look at the images we show you in our gallery, the complex combines world-class contemporary art, nature and laid-back luxury.

A private terrace with sea views

For many, Casa Malca is a work of art in itself. Located in a natural paradise surrounded by a lush jungle, it includes three cozy swimming pools. As we have mentioned before, it has 35 rooms, of which 9 are luxury suites. The most luxurious is the Malca Suite , which has 70 square meters and a private terrace that offers spectacular views of the jungle and the sea.

Public spaces

As for the hotel’s public spaces, they include Mayan themes, natural wood, and large windows for maximum natural light. The bursts of color serve to inspire guests and add flavor to their exquisite dishes, made with fresh ingredients from the Yucatan peninsula, selected to create a fusion of contemporary cuisine. Of course, Casa Malca has been decorated with part of the owner’s artwork.

Characteristics of a narco’s house

One of the things that most attracts the attention of the property is the tunnel that connects the entire complex. In addition, the roof appears to be designed to be able to keep an eye on the surroundings. Without a doubt, these are characteristics that a drug trafficker like Pablo Escobar would need. Of course, the town was not in his name when it was rediscovered. Next we leave you with our gallery , where you will find more images of Casa Malca. Do not miss it!
