Hungary is a country quite unknown to the Spanish and, nevertheless, every year it receives a large number of tourists attracted by its monuments and its nature. Its best known destination is Budapest, the capital, but the truth is that there are many reasons why it is worth traveling to this European country: a fascinating history that is reflected in its streets, exquisite food, delicious coffees, natural corners spectacular, birds, spas …

How could it be otherwise, we are going to start talking about Budapest, the capital and the most populated city in the country, in addition to being its main industrial, commercial and transport center. The second most populous city in Hungary is Debrecen, which is located in the far eastern part of the country. Its central square is surprising, flanked by its large church and a historic hotel. On the other hand, we want to comment that during the summer it hosts numerous street festivals. It also houses a wide variety of museums and thermal baths.


Another important city in Hungary is Miskolc, the largest in the northeastern part. It is located in the vicinity of the Slovak border, near the Bükk Mountains. The city is trying to become a cultural city, instead of being a purely industrial city. For this reason, it organizes different cultural events, such as the International Opera Festival, which is held every summer.


The fourth most populous city in Hungary is Szeged, which is also the most important in the southeast of the country. One of its main attractions is the Szeged Open Air Games, which took place for the first time in 1931. It is important to note that it is known as the “city of the sun”.


We must also talk about Pécs, which is located in the Mecsek mountains. The city is known for hosting the country’s best examples of Ottoman art. Tourist attractions include the Archaeological Museum, the Cathedral and the Gazi Kasim Pasha Mosque.


Another important city in Hungary is Györ, which is located on one of the most important roads in Central Europe, halfway between Vienna and Budapest. Today it is one of the most important cultural and administrative centers in the country, as well as being a popular tourist destination and a university city.


In the northeast of Hungary we find Nyíregyháza. Its zoo stands out, which exhibits more than 300 species of animals, and which is recognized throughout Europe. In addition, you should know that the city is home to several museums and exhibitions that show its rich cultural heritage.


We must also talk about Kecskemét, which is located in the central part of the country, halfway between Budapest and Szeged. It is a popular destination for Germans and Dutch. Also, you should know that Pilots Day attracts many visitors.


About 65 kilometers southwest of Budapest is Székesfehérvár, a city where many medieval Hungarian monarchs are buried. In addition, it was the traditional coronation site.


Finally, we must talk about Szombathely, which is located next to the Austrian border. It is considered the oldest city ​​in Hungary.
