Castries is the largest city and the capital of the island, where most of the population resides. The climate is clearly tropical and the rainy season begins in May and ends in August. The main setback that tourists can find are usually the hurricanes that annually hit a large part of the Caribbean islands.

The country’s economy depends on the cultivation of bananas . The culture of Saint Lucia has strong African influences , a product of immigration and the slave trade of the past.
