We are referring to the Valle del Jerte , a region located in the north of Extremadura (Cáceres) made up of 11 municipalities that is considered one of the richest areas in vegetation in the country. And although it reaches its maximum splendor in spring, any time is good to enjoy this authentic haven of peace. Do you want to discover more details about this beautiful place? Well, do not miss anything that we tell you below!
Located between the Sierra de Tromantos and the Montes de Traslasierra and Sierra de Béjar, the Jerte Valley is the ideal place to enjoy nature and tranquility. Its name comes from the river that runs through it (the Jerte) and offers extensive forests, crystalline gorges and traditional architecture of great value. On the other hand, it is important to bear in mind that thanks to the mountains that protect the valley, there is a microclimate in which winters are not very cold and summers offer mild temperatures.
Of course, the real protagonists of this place are the cherry trees, which reach their maximum splendor during spring thanks to the flowering period. In fact, during this time of year the valley receives the visit of thousands of people, something that is not surprising considering that the valley becomes a space of white blanket thanks to the more than 2 million cherry trees that are distributed marvelously on the slopes and banks of the mountains. Without a doubt, a pleasure for all the senses.
The beauty that the valley acquires is so great in the period from late March to early April, when the cherry blossoms occur, always depending on the winter weather , that in the villages that are part of the valley they celebrate during these dates the Spring and Cherry Blossom Festivities, where you can enjoy numerous gastronomic, cultural and hiking activities.
