The Northern Lights are one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the world, a fact that occurs without warning and that gives rise to light waves of various colors in the dark sky, always at night and in winter. It is speculated that its origin takes place in low temperatures, and although it is not entirely true, it does have some relationship, which means that the best months to see them are always the coldest of the year.
Northern Europe is one of the areas where they can be appreciated the most since it is one of the coldest places in the world. A rainbow of fire or an ice tornado are some of the forms that can appear with the northern lights, undoubtedly a phenomenon with great beauty that is worth seeing at least once in your life. Also, as it is somewhat unpredictable, anyone who sees it can consider themselves lucky.
How to see them
The northern lights can be seen in the northern hemisphere of the planet, and the same phenomenon but in the southern hemisphere is called the southern aurora but it is much more difficult to see and you could only do it from Antarctica. The problem with this is that, as it is unpredictable, you cannot travel expressly to see one, but if you travel at the right time to the right place you will have a good chance of seeing it. Its duration is also unpredictable, and can be a few seconds or even several months.
Where to see them
Sweden is one of the countries in which there are more possibilities to see them, and a good place to enjoy them is the Abisco National Park, where its nature is spectacular, especially Lake Torneträsk. Finnish Lapland is another of those places, perhaps where they appear the most and where they are most impressive. In Norway you will have the advantage that, if it happens, you can enjoy it from anywhere in the country, although you will have more possibilities if you are in the so-called "Northern Lights Belt", in the north. Finally, Greenland, an island belonging to Denmark and which, being in the Arctic Ocean, is also a perfect place to see the Northern Lights.
