The Costa Brava is one of the most tourist destinations in Spain. And there is no shortage of reasons to visit it because it is an excellent combination of mountains, nature and beach, but also of history, culture and tradition. A clear example of all these tourist possibilities is Cadaqués , a municipality that is considered one of the most beautiful in this Mediterranean enclave and that is usually visited by tourists, which we could define as more select. It is a town in whose streets it is well worth getting lost.

Old town

In addition to the view of the beach and the town when you come to this municipality by sea, it is important to walk through its old town and its streets , which look like a labyrinth . You should also visit the old bastion , which is preserved and was part of the wall.

During the visit, we must look at the rastell, name given to the old pavement of the people and that is handmade with stones taken from the edge of the sea, which owes its distinctive shape to the rolling waves on them. To observe it in all its splendor, a good option is to go to Calle del Call.

Inside the old town, at its highest point, is the church of Santa María de Cadaqués from which you can see a beautiful view of the entire bay. This temple, which began in the 16th century, is of late Gothic style , observing elements that were built later as the part of the nave closest to the front – there is a round point arch and rose window -, which is from the 17th century or the so-called Capella Fonda, which is from the 17th-19th centuries.

The 23-meter high Baroque altarpiece dedicated to the Virgen de la Esperanza is another of the outstanding elements of this church , although the rest of the golden altarpieces also deserve to be seen.

Other styles

In addition to this late Gothic style, in Cadaqués you can see other styles such as Modernism , which is present in many buildings, especially those located in front of the seafront . They are houses that, to a large extent, have a clear inspiration in Cuban architecture .

The tour of this municipality should lead to other emblematic buildings such as the Casa de Don Octavio Serinyana or Casa Valúa, the Caritat Serinyana public school, the Casa Federico y Víctor Rahola or the Torre del Colom, among others.
