The-Great-Trail
That Canada is one of the most beautiful countries in the world is no secret. Of course, what many people still do not know is that it is now possible to travel some of its most beautiful places through a single path. Yes! Yes! As you are reading it! We are referring to The Great Trail, a path that will be more than 15,000 miles long, crossing Canada from east to west. And we speak in the future because this trail, under construction since 1992, is not yet finished. The good news is that it is expected to be ready later this year, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.

Would you like to discover more details about The Great Trail ? Well, we recommend that you be very attentive to what we tell you below!

A great diversity of landscapes and activities

Throughout this year we will have at our disposal 24,000 kilometers of car-free route to travel on foot, by bicycle, on horseback, by boat … We are referring to The Great Trail, a path also known as the Trans Canada Trail, considered as the longest car-free trail in the world. It is an ambitious project that was launched in 1992 and which, fortunately for all nature lovers, and more specifically, Canadian landscapes, will be completed very soon. This road crosses the entire country from east to west, connecting its 13 provinces and offering anyone who dares to travel it a great diversity of landscapes and activities. In fact, it is important that you keep in mind that 26% of the route goes through water, so to complete it you will also have to use means of transport such as boats or kayak. Of course, along the way you will find rest and refreshment areas.

Thanks to donations

The project was launched by Trans Canada Trail, a non-profit organization that has been able to build this trail thanks to the donations they have been getting. In fact, each section is owned by the local organizations, authorities and municipalities through which the trail crosses, although there is a national entity that groups and coordinates all the linking work. At the moment, the road has 21,500 kilometers of route and 91% of the territory has already been connected. And it must be borne in mind that The Great Trail has been formed from the union of 400 old trails, cycle lanes and roads, although new routes have also been added, always betting on natural conservation.

Contributes to natural conservation

One fact to take into account is that 4 out of 5 Canadians will have their way within 30 minutes of their homes. Of course, those of us who live outside this wonderful country will also have the possibility of reaching it through the different airports in Canada, since most have great accessibility to the route. In any case, the trail contributes to natural conservation and promotes active lifestyles. In addition, it is important to bear in mind that it allows you to know the culture and history of the country, and create jobs along the way.
