The route

The Flysch Route runs through three fascinating towns on the Gipuzkoan coast (Mutriku, Deba and Zumaia), through kilometers and kilometers of steep cliffs that are submerging in the sea and that have been formed due to the movements of the earth for 50 million years and the erosive action of water. We are talking about the flysch, whimsical rock formations that offer a unique landscape. In this area, the one between Deba and Zumaia stands out, which in addition to being truly surprising , offers information on the different biological, geological and climatic changes that have occurred over the millennia. In fact, thanks to the fossil remains that can be found here in the rocks, it is a place highly appreciated by geologists, in addition to having been declared a Protected Biotope by the Government of the Basque Country.

Guided visits

Although you can do the route yourself, we recommend that you sign up for an organized visit, an activity organized from March to September by the area’s tourist offices, tourism companies and the Algorri interpretation center in Zumaia. Through these guided tours you will be able to get to know the Basque Coast Geopark in depth, doing all kinds of activities : getting to know the Nautilus Interpretation Center in Mutriku, taking a boat trip through the three towns that we mentioned before, visiting the Interpretation of Algorri …
