An intact beauty

Thanks to the difficulty to reach Huayhuash, the mountain range remains intact , maintaining all its natural beauty. Upon arrival, you will discover lagoons, streams, forests, wildlife and flowers of great diversity. However, unlike the Cordillera Blanca, it has little influx of tourists.

Yerupia, the second highest mountain in Peru

The extension of the Huayhuash mountain range is about 30 kilometers long, in which it houses six peaks that exceed 6,000 meters in height, in addition to another fifteen that exceed 5,400 meters. There is an important biodiversity thanks to the range of its altitudes and ecosystems. The highest mountain is Yerupia, with 6,634 meters above sea level. It is the second highest mountain in Peru.

A type of weasel

The word "Huayhuash" comes from Quechua and means a type of weasel. The total circuit, which goes around the entire mountain range, lasts about 12 or 14 days, although there are shorter routes. The main route passes through six agricultural villages located in the lower valleys, five steps above 4,500 meters above sea level and more than a dozen lagoons. The walk begins in Chiquián.
