Basic coverage of travel insurance

basic travel insurance
Have you already started planning your summer vacation? Well, beyond choosing the destination and thinking about everything you should carry in your suitcase, you must decide whether or not you want to take out travel insurance, which will protect you from any incident that occurs. Many times it is included in travel packages and on other occasions you have to hire it separately. From Vuela Viajes we recommend that you hire it, although it is not mandatory, since there are many problems that can arise far from home: loss of luggage, illness, delay or cancellation of flights …

As we have mentioned, many travel agencies offer insurance , but you can go to any company to choose the coverage you prefer. What we want to do today at Vuela Viajes is to inform you about the basic coverage that travel insurance must have. It will be extremely useful when organizing your vacation!

Depending on the type of trip

The first thing you should know is that when you buy a combined travel package (with flights, accommodation and travel), it usually comes with travel insurance included, for which you will not have to pay any additional cost. In fact, companies are obliged to offer this service. This type of insurance only offers the minimum coverage, so depending on the destination chosen or the type of vacation you are going to take, it will be better to take out extra insurance that includes more coverage.

As we mentioned at the beginning, what we are going to do today is explain what type of coverage this type of insurance has. In this way, you will know if it is convenient for you to take out another type of insurance. One of the coverage they guarantee is health care during the trip, although not all policies are the same. Only some include all expenses (hospitalization, interventions, nursing expenses, medications …).

Flight problems

Fortunately, this type of insurance includes different problems that can happen with flights. For example, they usually guarantee compensation in the event of a delay of more than 6 hours in departures. On the other hand, financial compensation is also offered when an airplane is overbooked, in addition to accommodation until the time of the flight, transfers and meals. And in case of cancellation of the trip due to company or technical problems, you can also claim reimbursement of the expenses of the obligatory stay, in addition to compensation depending on the ticket. Obviously, the compensation depends on the price of the ticket. In addition, this type of insurance includes the location and shipment of luggage to the place of residence or the destination of the trip.

In case of death

Although we do not like to talk about this last coverage, basic travel insurance usually includes transportation or repatriation in the event of the death of the traveler. In addition, some policies also include the displacement of a relative or friend who lives in the place of residence of the deceased so that they can accompany the body.

Some advices

What we recommend is that you read the insurance policy well to see what it includes. For travel in Europe, medical coverage of between 3,000 and 6,000 euros is recommended, although to travel to the United States it should be between 18,000 and 50,000 euros. On the other hand, you should know that cancellation insurance is recommended so as not to lose the money for the trip in case of not being able to attend. And if your trip is sports or adventure, it is best to take out special insurance that includes other coverage, such as relief and rescue expenses.
