Erlebnisburg Castle in Austria

Castles are one of the places that tourists visit the most, regardless of the country in which they are located. Fortresses that house a lot of history, mysteries, elegance and much more. The most spectacular castles in Europe are in Scotland, but there are other countries where you can also find many that are very interesting. One of them is Austria , a country where you can visit the castle that I am going to write about today.

It is about the Erlebnisburg Castle , which is about 40 kilometers south of Salzburg, one of the most attractive Austrian cities. It is a spectacular fortress that is in an incredible natural landscape between the Berchtesgaden and Tennengebirgs mountains, which are part of the Alps. It is also known as the Hohenwerfen Castle and is a place to discover many interesting things.

An incomparable landscape

This castle was built on a cliff that is just over 150 meters above the Salzach valley, one of the most beautiful in the country. To get to the castle you have to travel about 3 kilometers of mountain slopes, which adds much more interest since the landscapes that you will enjoy during the tour are truly spectacular. They are beginning to build an elevator that will travel that distance, but there are still a few years to go before it can open.

Its construction was completed in 1086 and during its long history it has been the residence of kings and princes and from the 18th century it functioned as a state prison for many years. Today, it is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the area. In addition to visiting its facilities, you can also enjoy a falconry show and there is a playground with all kinds of activities for the little ones. In addition, festivals and concerts are organized throughout the year.
