The Manchego cheese route in Spain

You already know that I love talking about gastronomy and the best that you can discover in any corner of the world. Today I would like to focus on one of my gastronomic passions and that surely is also one of many of you: cheese. Specifically, the Manchego cheese , an authentic delicacy that we have in our country and that has nothing to envy the delicacies that are in the world, rather the opposite.

The other day at a family reunion we started talking about organizing a culinary or wine tour , and doing a little research I have discovered one that I hope to be able to do very soon, so I love sharing it with you. It is the route of the Manchego cheese, which is obviously in Castilla la Mancha and which includes several towns that are dedicated to its production.

Manchego cheese is a jewel of our gastronomy and one of the most famous cheeses in Spain . It is made with sheep’s milk from the La Mancha breed that are fed with cereals and legumes and for their maturation they have to spend between 30 and 60 days. According to its degree of cure it is tender, semi-cured and cured. The route to taste the best covers part of the provinces of Cuenca, Toledo, Albacete and Ciudad Real.

The ideal is to start in Campo de Criptana (Ciudad Real), where you can also enjoy a spectacular landscape. From there you get to Tomelloso, where you can see a couple of very interesting museums and a religious building that is also of interest. Then you will have to go to La Solana, also enjoying the views of the different towns that you come across along the way.

It goes without saying that in each of the towns that you stop it is mandatory to have a little cheese, the best thing is to go to a typical bar or tavern and thus you will have the best ones, plus you can buy them in any store. That said, other places that are on the route are San Carlos del Valle, Villanueva de los Infantes (it will sound like Don Quijote and Sancho Panza), Valdepeñas and Santa Cruz de Mudela. A route where you can enjoy the best Manchego cheeses in the world for a couple of days. Highly recommended!
